If you are fans of comics you shouldn’t miss the Amadora BD 2017, counting already with its 28th edition. The city council of Amadora organizes this event every year. It starts on 27th of October and lasts until 12th of November, with the main theme as the ”news report”, one of the most noble type of journalism.

Our article today shows an event which is fora (out) but really close to the city of Lisbon. Counting already with its 28th edition this year, the Luís Camões Forum, situated in the city of Amadora, will receive another edition of the Amadora BD festival. This event is considered to be the most important of National and European comics events. Besides exhibitions, you can also find a vast program which allows you to meet the artists in person, watch presentations, releases, cinema sessions and workshops.

This year’s main theme is ”Telling the World – the news report in comics”. This exhibition will present the questions which surround this noble type of journalism, following historical and current works, made by  journalists who use comics as their main language. This way, it will be an exhibition on news report and journalism present in comics, without limited frontiers, showing illustrations which represent some moments. The intention is to rise important questions about journalism and news report’s limits presenting comics among these questions.

The featured artist will be Nuno Saraiva, the winner of the Amadora BD Festival 2016 with the work ”Tudo isto é Fado” (All this is Fado) and he is the author of this year festival’s poster.

The Amadora BD 2017 will also celebrate Jack Kirby and Will Eisner. Jack Kirby is the author of many legendary Marvel comic characters such as Captain America, Fantastic Four, The Avengers and Hulk. Will Eisner was the father of the graphic novels and was internationally acclaimed for being the author for the sequential art, a term which he invented. His name was used for the ”Oscars” of comics, the Eisner Awards.
