For all the true lovers of literature, we present you ‘The Literary Man’ – a hotel in Óbidos with more than 30 thousand books and 30 rooms. The hotel, whose main theme is literature, is the biggest literary hotel in the world. It opened its doors in October last year, offering a space of literature, an open library and a bookshop. The library is not only available to guests, but also for the public in general who wishes to visit it.
Telmo Faria and Marta Garcia, a married couple, wanted to bring a new hotel concept in Óbidos. Launched in October last year, today the hotel is considered the biggest literary hotel in the world. It possesses more than 30 thousand books, but the objective is to increase the number to 100 thousand. The old Convent Inn was transformed into a space of books spread around, of various themes – from travel literature, to philosophy books, gastronomy, health, sports and detective books; the majority in English.
Apart from books, ‘The Literary Man’, which in Portuguese means Homem Literário, has 30 rooms, some of which were transformed from old nun cells, always having the same theme in common: books. The hotel invites you to relax and rest, and it also offers a massage service that includes treatment with hot stones and chocolate therapy. A restaurant with literary menus and a gin bar are present to make this experience unique.
