Discovering Lisbon with us is much more than visiting a pretty city by Tagus river. It is discovering a city in which the sounds and rhythms of the Lusophone world are gathered in the same space. You can listen to Lisbon’s same language through different accents and sounds in every corner, in every street. This is our city.
This way we present you Rhythms of Lisbon. The main theme of this itinerary is the relationship between Portugal and Brazil and the historical and cultural connection between the two countries. The meeting point is at Terreiro do Paço where we begin to weave stories fromthe royal family escape to Brazil, the character of king D. Pedro IV, I of Brazil to the Lisbon locals’ passion for coffee, the Portuguese emigrants, the differences between Portuguese from Brazil and Portuguese from Portugal. A journey crossing the Atlantic ocean through Lisbon’s streets.
And to end with gold key (from Brazil) we we suggest you to try this Forró or Samba de Gafieira dance workshop at Espaço Baião.
The Espaço Baião is the result of a project which was born 17 years ago, dedicated to a very own music style – Forró. Before, a project called Forró de Lampião dynamised by Enrique Matos, organized dancing balls in many well known Lisbon rooms such as B-Leza, Ribeira Market, Santiago Alquimista until they found their own room close to Ateneu. The Espaço Baião has become another place to promote Brazilian culture in Lisbon.
Forró, Samba de Gafieira, Capoeira, are some of the classes suggested, but there are also Yoga and Drama classes for those who would like something softer. They also organize other events such as gatherings, debates, film sessions and parties.
